Frequently Asked Questions

What is VoicePath?

VoicePath is an online aphasia practice tool. It offers five kinds of speech and language exercises — picture word cards, word-picture matching, sentence building, rhythm practice, and sing-along — with a 3D talking avatar that models each word aloud.

Who is VoicePath for?

People living with aphasia, especially stroke survivors who want extra word-finding and speaking practice at home between therapy sessions. Speech-language therapists can also use it to give their patients personalized practice.

Is VoicePath free?

Yes — VoicePath is free to use during the beta. Create an account and you can use every exercise.

Do I need to download an app?

No. VoicePath runs in a web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. There is nothing to install.

Does VoicePath replace speech therapy?

No. VoicePath is a supplemental practice tool, not a replacement for a licensed speech-language pathologist. It works best alongside professional therapy.

How can speech-language therapists use VoicePath?

Therapists can create a therapist account to connect with patients, build them personalized practice word lists, and see how much they practice between sessions. Therapist accounts are reviewed by an admin before those features unlock.

What techniques are the exercises based on?

Each exercise is inspired by techniques used in clinical aphasia therapy, including confrontation naming, cueing hierarchies, Semantic Feature Analysis, word-picture verification, PACE, and Melodic Intonation Therapy. The Our Approach page explains each one, with links to the research.

A note on professional care: VoicePath is designed as a supplemental practice tool, not a replacement for working with a licensed speech-language pathologist. For the best outcomes, use it alongside — not instead of — professional therapy. If you don't yet have a therapist, ask your physician for a referral.
